Persistence of Vision

Persistence of vision is a commonly-accepted although somewhat controversial theory which states that the human eye always retains images for a fraction of a second This means that everything we see is a slight blend of what is happening now and what happened a fraction of a second ago.

Zeotropes

A zoetrope is a tool consisting of a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides. Beneath the slits, on the inner surface of the cylinder, is a band which has either individual frames from a video/film or images from a set of sequenced drawings or photographs. As the cylinder spins, the user looks through the slits at the pictures on the opposite side of the cylinder's interior. The scanning of the slits keeps the pictures from simply blurring together, so that the user sees a rapid succession of images producing the illusion of motion, the equivalent of a motion picture. Cylindrical zoetropes have the property of causing the images to appear thinner than their actual sizes when viewed in motion through the slits.

Claymation Animation

Clay animation is another form of stop motion animation. All the animated pieces are deformable made of a flexible substances, usually Plasticine clay. In clay animation, one of the many forms of stop-motion animation, each object is sculpted in clay or make your own character.

Will Vinton is an American director and producer for animated films. He is also owner of an animation studio where he works with clay artists to create clay animations. Claymation involves using objects or characters sculpted from clay or other moldable material, and then taking a series of still pictures which creates movement. This is come Will vintons work that he had done in 1989 called the Californian raisins.

Clay animation has poitive advantges like the clay can be changed in to many form or even to morph to make new characters. It also gives a really good 3d effect. There are also disadvantages of using claymation animation, trying to make the same chacter again would be hard as the plasticine clay is not good to do that.

Like all the other animation I have also done 15 second claymation video . This is the video:

Pixilation

Pixilation animation is also a stop motion technique which is used by live actors are used as a frame to frame subject in an animated movie. They keep repeating poses while one or more frame is taken and changing the poses slightly before the next frame, which then leads into a moving animation. By doing this kind of animation the live actors look like stop motion puppets. Pixilation animation is like different technique of animation which is different from the others, like all the other animations you can be as creative as you can.For example the difference with pixilation animation and the other is that, with this technique you get use live actors, where as for other animations its different materials used.
We also have created a pixilation animation this is what we have done.

Drawn Animation

Drawn Animation is also known as traditional animation. This sort of animation is when the animator draws the entire animation movie. This sort of animation is often used in contrast with the now more commonly used computer animation. When an animator creates a drawn animation, they would use the audio soundtrack as how to synching mouth movment and facial impression.
There are eight stages to become a good animator:
-Cretaing the character
-Details of the character (height/weight)
-Turnarounds
-Movement sketches
-off model/on model
-advanced aniamtin drawing
-background drawing
-colouring and props

A wel knowns animator who is good at all these thing woudl be Preston Blair, he was a character animator and worked at walt disney productions. He did the animation character for flinstones etc.

Drawn animation has a major disadvantage on people who do not have a artistic skills. Not everyone has art talent to produce contintuity animation video.Cut out animtion is similar to drawn aniamtion except that the image is allready there.

Frame Rate
The term Frame rate applies equally well to computer graphics, videos and motion systems. Frames is often shown per second. When adding animation to an application the frame rate if it too high it can lead to processor problems especially when usind autoscript to create an animation.

Object Animation

Object Animation is stop motion animation, instead of using pictures like cut out animation, there are objects involved in this like pencils, chairs etc. These techniques all require animators to work with aspects of filmmaking very similar to those that live action directors have to deail with. In object aniamtion, lighting, camera movement, lens, depth of field and spatial relationshops are not virtual, as in cartoons, but real, as in films.

The positive thing about experimenting object aniamtion is that its easier to do. This is because with object animation the objects just have to be movies, where as with cut otu animation, there would have to be images and also cut out aniamtion would give an 2D effect on the animation.

Object animation is used a lot in movies, I also created a short object aniamtion movie in a classroom with couple of classmates.

Cut Out Animation

Cutout animation is another way of producing animations using flat characters. Cut out animation can simply be done by cutting out magazine or newspaper images and creating an animation. A lot of animators use cut out animation technique in their work like Trey Parker the directors of South park uses computer animation to imitate cut out animation.

Cut out animation does have its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages about doing a cut out animation video, you can be creative and also make the impossible things what cannot be done when making a ordinary movies. For example in cut out animation you can involve a lot of random images which creates a storyline. Although these are the advantages there also disadvantages as well, doing this is time consuming.

This cut out animation video below is what I have done with my classmate. We used magazine and newspaper images to create a little storyline with it. In this cut out aniamtion we also tried to make it 3D by making everything com out of a box. We used i-stop motion pro 7 to capture the image and make it look as professional as possible.
